Today is the second feature in the Kristin & Co. Skincare Spotlight Series! If you missed the first one and are wondering what this is all about, every week I’ll be featuring individuals, companies, or products that focus on skin positivity, education, and how to live your best life with acne, rosacea, and more.

For today’s post, I’m super excited to share artist and skin positive instagrammer Crystal! She posts beautiful custom art showcasing the emotional side of living with acne/skin conditions in a very “post secret” (please tell me you remember those!) style. She also shares her own journey in a very honest and candid way, which in this day and age is so refreshing and much needed.

I hope you enjoy learning and following along with Crystal as much as I have. xoxo - Kristin

Name: Crystal

Age: 31

Skintype: Acne

IG Handle: Honestacne

At what age did you develop skin issues?:

I started to develop acne at age 13.

How did you feel/perceive acne and rosacea before? After getting diagnosed?:

I felt like something was wrong with me, that I needed it to be fixed. I remember the dermatologist I saw said, “don’t worry we will fix it” and I remember feeling so much shame.

How did you come to #embraceyourface, “imperfections” and all?:

My brother was murdered and after we lost him I really started to notice how much life I allowed acne to take from me. I was sick of letting my insecurities run my life. I started my instagram account to basically just share my bare face with the world. I had worn face cover up everyday for every year that I had acne. I never went into public without it. I was tired. Starting my page gave me a freedom. I was no longer afraid to show myself. Slowly that progressed into this courage and proudness. I felt stronger for having had walked through the struggle that is acne. I finally was able to look past the breakouts and see my beauty. Acne no longer defined me.

What are your ride or die skincare products?:

Hands down Luminosity Cystic Acne Kit & Almond Clears entire line.

(Kristin & Co. Note: You can use code HONESTACNE at checkout to save money on your purchase if you use/want to try her products too!)

What is the best way you’ve found to manage your acne or rosacea?:

Mandelic Acid has really been a game changer for my skin. It’s gentle enough but also packs the acne fighting capability my skin needs.

Any final thoughts or words of advice?

I’ll say that something I wish I knew sooner was that acne is normal. It’s very common and you’re not alone. Acne is separate from who you are and it doesn’t take away from your essence. As hard as it can be to see past it and into your heart, I encourage you to do just that. Don’t hide away, the world deserves to experience you.
