Daisy Jing BANISH CEO and Founder

I’m really excited because today’s post is in partnership with BANISH Acne Scars and it’s the first in my Skincare Spotlight series to feature a skin positive company! It’s with immense pleasure that I introduce you to Daisy Jing. A true #girlboss and female entrepreneur who took one of her life’s biggest challenges and transformed it into a business for the force of good.

BANISH isn’t just a skincare company, it’s a mover and shaker in the skincare world, challenging conventional notions that blemished and scarred skin is something to be ashamed of. Instead, Daisy features customer’s scarred cheeks as a celebration of confidence—good skincare is just the cherry on top. To truly understand the mission of BANISH, one needs to look no further than Daisy’s own personal journey with acne to see why conforming to unrealistic beauty standards will never be a part of the company’s growth strategy.

Name: Daisy Jing

Age: 31

Skintype: Acne & Acne Scarring

IG Handle: Personal: daiserz89 Business: Banish

At what age did you develop skin issues?:

Age 10

How did you feel/perceive acne and rosacea before? After getting diagnosed?:

Bad, ugly, like it made me dirty. I was so ashamed of it, I tried everything to cover it up. After getting 'diagnosed' I realized I had to do 'hardcore' acne treatments—like take pills or prescriptions. When taking the pills, it made me realize it was much more severe than I thought it was. At 13 years old, and taking 'pill's for my acne, I felt like acne is something you should be ashamed of having, why would doctors then prescribe all this?

How did you come to #embraceyourface, “imperfections” and all?:

Starting my YouTube channel and posting my first video Growing Up Ugly made me realize that others felt the same way. I was already naked and vulnerable. I no longer needed to be ashamed and no longer needed to hide. This was the start of the skin positivity community, where so many others were inspired to start their own social media platforms with their skin issues.

What are your ride or die skincare products?:

All clear mint cleanser from Banish, Banisher Kit, Evian water spray

What is the best way you’ve found to manage your acne or rosacea?:

Not overdoing it with products! Less is definitely more when it comes to skincare. Looking at the individual ingredients of products vs. looking at ads or reviews. Making sure the ingredients I'm allergic to are not in the products I'm going to purchase. Also, being patient when it comes to skincare. In our instantaneous culture, we expect things right away and skincare is definitely a patient, consistent practice.

Any final thoughts or words of advice?

Realize your skin is not forever. Skin comes and goes. When you get older you develop a whole different set of issues with your skin, so if you're always aiming for perfection for your skin, you'll be unhappy. Embrace your skin the way it is, every nook and cranny of it.
